What ncert.ai is
NCERT textbooks are the backbone of school learning in India. ncert.ai is a companion to them: for each chapter we write an original, interactive version that follows the same sections, topics and learning outcomes, so you always know where you are in your textbook.
It is not a replacement for your textbook or your teacher. The official books are free to read at ncert.nic.in, and every book page here links to them.
Content policy: original companion content aligned to NCERT
Everything you read on ncert.ai is written fresh for this site. In practice that means:
- All prose, figures, animations, simulations and questions are original. We never copy NCERT paragraphs, figures, photographs or cover art, and we do not use the NCERT logo or the national emblem.
- We follow NCERT's structure. Book and chapter titles, chapter numbers, section topics, page references and exercise numbers (for example “NCERT Exercise 1.2, Q3”) appear as pointers so you can find your place in the textbook.
- Short quotations are rare. When a quote is essential it is under 15 words and attributed.
- Every block records its provenance, and published chapters are checked for overlap with the NCERT text before they go live.
- Book covers are generated from each book's subject and title. They are not NCERT artwork.
How chapters are made
Chapters are written by an AI model (Claude, by Anthropic) working from the NCERT syllabus. Each chapter then goes through a separate review pass, also run with Claude, that re-derives every formula and answer, checks the text against the NCERT chapter for copied wording, and checks coverage of every section, age-appropriate language, accessibility and figure quality. Automated checks run on every chapter before it is published. Chapters appear on the site only after that review; the rest are marked “coming soon”. Each step, and what the checks cover, is described in How we make chapters.
There is no named teacher or subject expert reviewing chapters today, so treat ncert.ai as a study companion and check anything important with your textbook and teacher.
Mistakes can still slip through. If something looks wrong, tell us (see below) and we will fix it. Corrections update the chapter in place, and your highlights stay attached to the text.
The AI tutor
Select any passage and choose Ask to get an explanation, an example, or a quick quiz. The tutor is told what class you are in and sees only the passage and its section, so its answers stay close to the book. AI answers can be wrong: check them with your textbook and teacher. The tutor is switched on only when it has been configured; until then the button says “coming soon”.

You don't need an account. Highlights, notes, bookmarks and progress are stored in your browser. If you sign in, they sync to your account so you can use them on other devices. We don't show ads and we don't sell data. Read the full privacy policy.
Report a problem
Found a mistake in a chapter, a broken figure, or something that isn't right for students? Use Report a mistake at the bottom of the chapter, which fills in the page for you, or email contact@ncert.ai with the chapter and what you noticed. Rights holders can reach us at the same address.
