7.1 Padhne se pehle
Ek badi family wedding ke baare mein socho. Ek aunty ne apni behen se maanga hua gold set pehna hai, ek cousin ne sirf ek shaam ke liye mehenga lehenga kiraaye par liya hai, aur sabko fikr hai ki rishtedaar kya kahenge. Doosron ke saamne achha dikhna chahna bilkul insaani baat hai. Yeh kahani is chahat par ek mushkil sawaal poochhti hai: agar ek chhoti si cheez galat ho jaaye, to iski keemat kya ho sakti hai?
Matilda Loisel apne pati ke saath Paris mein rehti hai, jo ek junior clerk hai. Jab ek shaandaar ball ka invitation aata hai, to woh nayi dress leti hai, ek ameer saheli se diamond necklace udhaar leti hai, aur phir use kho deti hai. Is nuksaan ko bharne mein das saal lagte hain, aur aakhri kuch lines sab kuch ulat deti hain. Pehle apni textbook mein kahani padho. Yeh companion use part by part samjhata hai, phir board exam ki practice mein madad karta hai.
Kahani chaar stages se guzarti hai, ek aisi aurat se jo aur zyada chahti hai, aakhri surprise tak, jaise Fig. 7.1 dikhata hai. Dhyaan do ki map ending ko chhupa kar rakhta hai: aakhri page pehle padhne ki koshish mat karna.
5/5Part IV: das mushkil saal, ek mulaqat, aur ek surprise jo tumhe khud padhna hoga.
Chaar columns saath-saath khade hain, jin par Part I se Part IV tak headings hain. Step 1, Parts: sirf chaar headings dikhti hain: Chahat, Shaan, Keemat aur Das saal. Step 2, Part I: Chahat ke neeche do cards aate hain, invitation aur dress. Step 3, Part II: Shaan ke neeche udhaar ke necklace, ball aur nuksaan ke cards aate hain. Step 4, Part III: Keemat ke neeche khoj, jhooth aur nakal ke cards aate hain. Step 5, Part IV: Das saal ke neeche mehnat aur mulaqat ke cards aate hain, aur uske baad ek aakhri card jo ending ke liye sirf ek question mark dikhata hai.

7.2 Kahani padhna
Tumhari textbook kahani ko teen Read and Find Out boxes se todti hai. Hum unhi ko follow karte hain, aur aakhri lambe hisse ko do mein baant dete hain. Part I tab khatam hota hai jab dress ke paise tay ho jaate hain, Part II jab necklace gayab milta hai, Part III jab hamshakal necklace lauta diya jaata hai, aur Part IV aakhri raaz khulne par. Har part mein events sahi kram mein, zaroori moments, aur textbook ke questions par ek quick check hai.
7.2.1 Part I: Ek patni jo aur chahti hai
Matilda jawan aur sundar hai, lekin uski family clerks ki hai jiske paas dowry ke paise nahi, isliye kisi ameer ya bade aadmi se milne ka uske paas koi raasta nahi. Woh education office ke ek junior clerk se shaadi kar leti hai. Uski zindagi mein asal mein kuch galat nahi hai; woh bas aam hai, aur aam hi woh cheez hai jo use bardaasht nahi. Use lagta hai ki woh luxury ke liye bani thi, isliye har saadha kamra aur purani kursi use apmaan jaisi lagti hai.
Dinner table poori shaadi ka haal bata deti hai. Ek simple ghar ki bani pie hi uske pati ko khush karne ke liye kaafi hai. Matilda, uske saamne baithi, mann hi mann kahin aur hai: chaandi se saji shaandaar tables par, aise dishes khaate hue jo usne kabhi chakhe nahi.
Ek shaam Loisel muskurata hua ek bada envelope lekar ghar aata hai. Andar ek printed card hai: Minister of Public Instruction aur Madame Ramponneau, M. aur Mme Loisel ko Minister ke ghar ek shaam ke liye invite karte hain. Loisel ko umeed hai ki woh khush hogi. Iske bajaaye Matilda card ko phenk deti hai. Woh kehti hai ki problem kapdon ki hai: itne shaandaar mauke ke laayak uske paas kuch nahi hai. Phir woh ro padti hai.
Uske liye yeh rakam chhoti nahi hai: yeh uski gun ke liye bachat hai, jo agle summer doston ke saath shikaar trips ke liye thi. Uska chehra thoda utar jaata hai, woh gun ke baare mein kuch nahi kehta, aur maan jaata hai. Woh bas itna chahta hai ki dress sundar ho.

7.2.2 Part II: Udhaar ki shaan
Jaise-jaise ball paas aati hai, dress lagbhag taiyaar ho jaati hai, lekin Matilda udaas aur bechain rehne lagti hai. Jab Loisel wajah poochhta hai, to woh ek nayi problem batati hai: uske paas koi jewellery nahi hai, aur iske bina woh gareeb dikhegi. Woh taaze phool pehenne ka sujhaav deta hai, jo us season fashion mein hain. Woh sunna bhi nahi chahti.
Agle din uski saheli ek bada jewel case kholti hai aur kehti hai ki jo chaho chun lo. Matilda ek ke baad ek piece pehen kar dekhti hai aur tay nahi kar paati, jab tak use black satin box mein ek shaandaar diamond necklace nahi mil jaata. Use gale se lagaate hue uske haath kaanpte hain. Ghabraate hue woh sirf wahi ek udhaar maangti hai, aur uski saheli turant haan kar deti hai.
Ball uski jeet ki raat hai. Kamre ki har nazar uski taraf mudti hai, aur kuch ghanton ke liye use theek wahi taareef milti hai jiski use hamesha se chahat thi. Loisel ki shaam bilkul bhi glamorous nahi hai: aadhi raat se woh ek chhote side room mein teen aur patiyon ke saath oongh raha hai jinki patniyan abhi bhi naach rahi hain.
Woh subah lagbhag chaar baje nikalte hain. Loisel jo saadhe wraps uske kandhon par daalta hai, woh doosri auraton ke furs ke saamne gareeb lagte hain, isliye woh uske cab dhoondhne se pehle hi seedhiyon se neeche bhaag jaati hai. Sadak par koi cab nahi hai. Woh thand mein dukhi hokar nadi ki taraf ghisatte hue chalte hain, jab tak unhe ek purani khatara gaadi nahi milti jo unhe ghar le jaati hai. Loisel ko das baje tak office pahunchna hai. Phir aaine ke saamne Matilda dar ke maare cheekh padti hai: uski gardan khaali hai. Necklace gayab hai.

7.2.3 Part III: Ek jhooth aur ek karz
Iske baad ki khoj bahut bechaini bhari hai. Gown, cloak, jebein: kuch nahi. Kyunki nikalte waqt use necklace pehna hua mehsoos hua tha, woh andaza lagaate hain ki woh cab mein gir gaya, lekin kisi ne cab ka number nahi dekha. Loisel baaki raat unke raaste par wapas chal kar dhoondhta hai. Agle din woh police, cab offices aur reward wale newspaper notice ki koshish karta hai. Sab bekaar jaata hai.
Waqt paane ke liye Loisel Matilda se kehta hai ki saheli ko likh do ki clasp toot gaya hai aur theek ho raha hai. Woh uske shabd likh deti hai. Yeh ek chhota jhooth hai, lekin yahi turning point hai: ab se Loisel couple sach ki jagah chuppi chunta hai. Ek hafte tak koi khabar na milne par woh umeed chhod dete hain, aur Loisel, jo paanch saal bada lagne laga hai, tay karta hai ki unhe necklace replace karna hoga.
Palais-Royal ki ek jeweller ki dukaan mein unhe diamonds ki ek string milti hai jo bilkul khoye hue necklace jaisi dikhti hai. Uski keemat 40,000 francs hai, lekin jeweller 36,000 le lega. Is rakam ka aadha hissa woh 18,000 francs hain jo Loisel ke pita use chhod gaye the; baaki aadha use udhaar lena padta hai. Woh laaparwaahi se promises sign karta hai aur usurers aur har us insaan se loan leta hai jo udhaar de. Phir woh necklace ki poori keemat chuka deta hai, jaise Fig. 7.2 dikhata hai.
4/4Khoya hua necklace zyada se zyada 500 francs ka tha: 36,000 ÷ 500 = 72.
Francs mein horizontal bars, sab ek hi scale par. Step 1, Dress: 400 francs ki ek chhoti bar, Loisel ki gun wali bachat. Step 2, Copy: hamshakal necklace ke liye 36,000 francs ki bahut lambi bar. Step 3, Bharpai: lambi bar do barabar hisson mein bat jaati hai, 18,000 francs Loisel ke pita se virasat mein mile aur 18,000 francs udhaar. Step 4, Sach: khoye hue necklace ki asli value ke liye ek teesri bar aati hai, zyada se zyada 500 francs, lambi bar ke saamne ek patli si lakeer, aur saath mein note ki copy ki keemat 72 guna thi.
Jab Matilda use lautati hai, to Mme Forestier use thande dhang se wapas leti hai, bas itni shikayat karti hai ki shaayad use iski zaroorat pehle pad sakti thi. Matilda ko dar tha ki saheli case kholegi, badli hui cheez pakad legi aur use chor samjhegi. Lekin Mme Forestier andar jhaankti tak nahi.

7.2.4 Part IV: Das saal aur sach
Gareebi, jisse Matilda hamesha darti thi, ab sach mein aa jaati hai, aur hairaani ki baat yeh hai ki woh iska saamna kitni himmat se karti hai. Naukrani ko hata diya jaata hai aur couple chhat ke neeche wale kamron mein shift ho jaata hai. Woh ghar ka har bhaari kaam khud karti hai, paani lekar seedhiyan chadhti hai, aur market mein ek-ek sikke ke liye mol-bhaav karti hai. Loisel shaam ko vyapaariyon ke hisaab-kitaab rakhta hai aur raat ko paanch sous prati page par documents copy karta hai.
Das saal lagte hain, lekin woh har karz chuka dete hain. Tab tak kaam ne Matilda ko umar se kahin zyada boodha bana diya hai. Uske haath laal aur khurdure hain, woh ab baalon par dhyaan nahi deti, aur uski awaaz oonchi ho gayi hai. Phir bhi, khidki par akele baithe, woh kabhi-kabhi us ek chamakti raat ko yaad karti hai jab har nazar us par thi. Narrator yahan ruk kar sochta hai ki nuksaan na hota to zindagi kaisi hoti, aur kehta hai ki sabse chhoti ghatna bhi zindagi ko barbaad kar sakti hai ya bacha sakti hai.
Ek Sunday, mehnat bhare hafte ke baad Champs-Élysées par tehalte hue, Matilda Mme Forestier ko ek bachche ke saath dekhti hai. Uski saheli abhi bhi jawan aur sundar hai. Karz chuk jaane ke baad Matilda use sab kuch batane ka faisla karti hai. Mme Forestier is thaki-haari aurat ko pehchaanti nahi, aur apne first name se bulaaye jaane par chaunk jaati hai. Jab Matilda batati hai ki woh kaun hai, to uski saheli uske itna badal jaane par cheekh padti hai.
Matilda thode garv ke saath samjhati hai: usne udhaar ka necklace kho diya, ek hamshakal lauta diya, aur das saal uski keemat chukaane mein bitaaye. Ab sab khatam ho gaya hai, aur woh santusht hai. Gehre dukh mein Mme Forestier uske dono haath pakadti hai aur sach batati hai: “Mine were false.” Uska necklace zyada se zyada paanch sau francs ka tha. Kahani theek wahin ruk jaati hai, aur hum kabhi nahi jaante ki aage kya hua. Fig. 7.3 necklace ka poora safar dikhata hai.
6/6Das saal baad: pehla necklace nakli tha, zyada se zyada 500 francs ka.
Do rows mein chhe numbered cards, arrows se jude, ek-ek karke chamakte hain. Step 1, Box: necklace Mme Forestier ke jewel case mein rakha hai. Step 2, Ball: use Minister ki ball mein pehna jaata hai. Step 3, Lost: card par ek dashed khaali outline hai, ghar ke raaste mein kho gaya. Step 4, Copy: ek hamshakal 36,000 francs mein khareeda jaata hai. Step 5, Back: copy lauta di jaati hai aur case kabhi khola nahi jaata. Step 6, Sach: chhatha card kehta hai ki keemat 500 francs tak hai, saath mein FAKE tag, aur wahi FAKE tag pehle card par bhi aa jaata hai, jewel case wale necklace par.

7.3 Kahani par sochna
Is kahani par board answers mein evidence ke marks milte hain. Jab bhi tum koi quality ya idea batao, use kisi character ke kaam ya baat se support karo. Yeh section tumhe wahi material deta hai: teen main characters, themes, aur woh irony jo ending ko famous banati hai.
7.3.1 Characters
Matilda Loisel kahani ke centre mein hai, aur woh sabse zyada badalti hai. Shuru mein woh sundar, vain (ghamandi) aur hamesha dissatisfied hai. Woh apni zindagi ko ameer auraton ke paas jo hai usse naapti hai, isliye pyaar karne wala pati aur theek-thaak ghar use koi khushi nahi dete. Uski vanity plot ko aage badhati hai: isi wajah se woh dress ke liye roti hai, phool mana karti hai, sabse shaandaar jewel chunti hai aur sharm se ball se bhaagti hai. Lekin nuksaan ke baad ek alag Matilda saamne aati hai. Woh das saal bina shikayat kaam karti hai aur ek-ek franc chuka deti hai. Kahani ke ant mein woh zyada gareeb, boodhi aur mazboot hai, lekin pehle se zyada izzat ke laayak.
| Trait | Kahani se saboot |
|---|---|
| Discontented (asantusht) | Pyaar karne wale pati aur theek-thaak ghar ke bawajood dukhi |
| Vain and proud (ghamandi) | Dress ke liye roti hai; phool mana karti hai; sabse badhiya jewel chahti hai |
| Envious (jalne wali) | Ameer saheli se milna taalti hai kyunki milne ke baad woh dukhi ho jaati hai |
| Self-centred (khud mein magan) | Loisel ki bachat le leti hai bina poochhe ki woh kya chhod raha hai |
| Afraid of shame (sharm se darne wali) | Saheli ko batane ki jagah nuksaan chhupati hai |
| Hard-working and brave (mehnati aur bahadur) | Das saal tak saara bhaari kaam khud karti hai |
| Honourable in the end (aakhir mein imaandar) | Har karz chukati hai, phir sach batati hai |
M. Loisel ek simple, contented (santusht) aadmi hai jo chahta hai ki uski patni khush rahe. Woh use khush karne ke liye invitation laata hai, uski dress ke liye apne gun ke paise chhod deta hai, pehle phool aur phir udhaar ka sujhaav deta hai, aur nuksaan ke baad raat bhar dhoondhta hai. Das saal tak woh bhaari karz uthata hai aur use dosh diye bina extra ghante kaam karta hai. Woh loving, patient aur self-sacrificing hai. Uski ek badi galti cover-up hai: woh khud hi clasp wali chitthi likhwata hai aur sach maanne ki jagah necklace replace karna chunta hai.
Mme Forestier Matilda ki ameer school wali saheli hai. Woh generous hai, Matilda ko jo bhi jewel pasand aaye bina hichkichaye de deti hai. Woh thodi careless aur cool bhi hai, der se lautane par shikayat karti hai aur case kabhi check nahi karti. Ant mein apni purani saheli ki takleef dekh kar woh bhaavuk ho jaati hai. Woh kuch galat nahi karti, phir bhi usi ka dar Loisel couple ko phansa deta hai: uske paas ek imaandar visit das saal bacha sakti thi. In logon ke aas-paas Matilda ka mood kaise upar-neeche hota hai, yeh Fig. 7.4 mein dikhaya gaya hai.
5/5Kahani raaz khulne par khatam hoti hai. Woh kaisa mehsoos karti hai, yeh tum par chhoda gaya hai.
Ek mood line baayen se daayen chalti hai, low se high ke scale par. Step 1, Shuruaat: do neeche points, Ghar aur Invite, invitation par aansu ke saath. Step 2, Shaan: line Loan tak chadhti hai aur Ball par peak karti hai, jis par taareef likha hai. Step 3, Nuksaan: line Lost par sabse neeche gir jaati hai. Step 4, Saal: 10 saal tak neeche rehti hai, phir ek beech ke point, Paid, tak uthti hai, jis par garv likha hai. Step 5, Sach: Sach par ek aakhri point jis par question mark hai, kyunki kahani yeh dikhane se pehle khatam ho jaati hai ki woh kaisa mehsoos karti hai.
7.3.2 Themes aur message
Theme ek bada idea hai jiske baare mein kahani tumhe sochne par majboor karti hai. The Necklace mein kai themes hain, aur board questions aksar inmein se kisi ek ka naam lete hain.
- Pride and appearances (ghamand aur dikhawa). Matilda kisi bhi asli cheez se zyada ameer dikhna chahti hai. Dikhawe ki ek raat ki keemat das saal hai.
- Appearance and reality (dikhawa aur sach). Ek nakli necklace diamonds jaisa lagta hai, ek clerk ki patni high society ki lady lagti hai, aur ek musibat aakhir mein bina zaroorat ki nikalti hai.
- Honesty (imaandari). Ball ke agle din subah ki ek imaandar baatcheet sab kuch bacha sakti thi. Sharm ka dar Loisel couple se sach chhupwata hai, aur yahi chhupana unhe barbaad kar deta hai.
- Contentment (santosh). Loisel thode mein khush hai; Matilda kaafi hone par bhi dukhi hai. Jalan ek aisi zindagi bhi bigaad sakti hai jo bilkul buri nahi thi.
- Chance and character (sanyog aur swabhaav). Bad luck se necklace khota hai, lekin aage kya hoga yeh character tay karta hai. Uska ghamand nuksaan ka raasta banata hai; uski himmat karz chukati hai.
- Dignity of work (mehnat ki izzat). Mushkilein Matilda ki vanity utaar deti hain aur woh taakat aur discipline dikhati hain jo use pata hi nahi tha ki usmein hai.
Yeh ideas cause and effect ki ek chain mein jud jaate hain, jo Fig. 7.5 mein dikhaya gaya hai. Dhyaan do ki zyaadatar links choices hain, sirf bad luck nahi. Isi wajah se kahani ko aksar dikhawe ke liye jeene ke khilaaf ek warning ki tarah padha jaata hai.
5/5Bill: das saal ka karz. Tick wale links choices the.
Do rows mein arrows se jude saat boxes. Step 1, Chahat: pehla box, Envy, aata hai. Step 2, Dikhawa: udhaar ke jewel aur jaldi exit ke boxes aate hain, Envy se jude. Step 3, Nuksaan: khoye necklace ka box aata hai, sanyog ke mark ke saath. Step 4, Chhupana: jhooth aur hamshakal necklace ke boxes aate hain. Step 5, Keemat: aakhri box, das saal ka karz, aata hai; jo chaar boxes choices the unpar tick lag jaata hai, aur ek key batati hai ki tick ka matlab faisla hai aur dashed box ka matlab sirf luck.
7.3.3 Irony aur twist ending
Yeh kahani apni twist ending ke liye famous hai. Aakhri lines mein pata chalta hai ki necklace nakli tha, yaani das saal ki takleef bekaar gayi. Yeh situational irony hai: nateeja us cheez ka ulta hai jiski characters ko, aur readers ko, umeed thi. Loisel couple ne apni izzat bachane ke liye khud ko thaka diya, jabki sach batane ki keemat bahut kam hoti.
Twist fair hai, kyunki Maupassant aise clues rakhte hain jo dhyaan se padhne wala reader baad mein pakad sakta hai. Mme Forestier necklace turant udhaar de deti hai, jaise woh koi khaas cheez na ho. Jab woh der se wapas aata hai, to woh shikayat karti hai lekin case khol kar check nahi karti. Koi bhi detail akele yeh saabit nahi karti ki necklace nakli hai, lekin dono milkar ending ko believable banati hain. Fig. 7.6 jo lagta hai use jo asal mein hai uske saamne rakhta hai.
5/5Das saal ki qurbaani, sab bekaar.
Do columns, Lagta aur Asal, chaar rows ke saath jo ek-ek karke bharti hain. Step 1, Lagta: sirf baayan column chaar vishwaas dikhata hai: asli diamonds, ek ameer aurat, jhooth bachata hai, aur qurbaani zaroori hai. Step 2, Necklace: pehli row ki daayi taraf likha hai fake, zyada se zyada 500 francs. Step 3, Aurat: doosri row mein likha hai udhaar ke jewels mein ek clerk ki patni. Step 4, Jhooth: teesri row mein likha hai jhooth unhe dubata hai. Step 5, Saal: chauthi row mein likha hai qurbaani bekaar thi.
Title. Plot ke har mod ke centre mein necklace hai: shaan ki raat, nuksaan, karz aur jhatka. Yeh us jhoothi chamak ka symbol bhi hai jiske peeche Matilda bhaagti hai, upar se sundar aur andar se kam keemat ki.
Narrator. Ek third-person narrator kahani sunata hai, zyaadatar Matilda ki taraf se, isliye hum uski chahat aur uska dar mehsoos karte hain. Ek baar, Part IV mein, narrator aage aakar seedha comment karta hai ki ek chhoti si cheez kaise zindagi barbaad kar sakti hai ya bacha sakti hai. Woh comment ek hi line mein kahani ka message hai.

Practice 7.3: Think about it (is par socho): answers ke saath
Dikhao ki ek udhaar ke necklace ne Loisel couple ki zindagi kaise ulat-pulat kar di.
Solution dikhao
Before the ball the Loisels lived modestly but comfortably, with a maid and a decent flat; Loisel even had savings. Losing the necklace changed everything. To buy a 36,000-franc replacement they spent his inheritance and borrowed the rest at high interest. For ten years they lived in attic rooms; Matilda did all the heavy work and Loisel worked nights. She lost her youth and beauty. Yet the change was not all loss: hardship made Matilda strong, disciplined and honourable.
- Key points: comfortable before
- 36,000 francs, half borrowed
- ten years of poverty and toil
- Matilda ages but grows stronger
Matilda ko asal mein kisne barbaad kiya: bad luck ne, ya uske apne swabhaav ki kisi cheez ne? Do aise points batao jahan ek alag choice use bacha sakti thi.
Solution dikhao
Losing the necklace was bad luck, but her own vanity and fear of shame did the real damage. Two choices would have saved her. First, she could have accepted Loisel's idea of fresh flowers instead of borrowing jewels to look rich. Second, after the loss she could have told Mme Forestier the truth at once. She would have learned that the necklace was fake and owed very little.
- Key points: loss = luck; ruin = vanity and dishonesty
- wear flowers / live within her means
- confess at once
Maan lo Matilda ball ke agle din subah Mme Forestier ke paas jaakar nuksaan maan leti. Kahani ka ant kaisa ho sakta tha?
Solution dikhao
Mme Forestier would probably have been upset at first, but she would also have explained that the necklace was paste, worth five hundred francs at most. Matilda could have repaid that sum over time. There would have been no huge loan, no usurers and no ten years in an attic. Matilda would have kept her looks and her friendship, and learned a much cheaper lesson about honesty and vanity.
- Key points: learns it is fake
- small debt, easily repaid
- no ten years of poverty
- friendship and youth kept
Socho kisi dost ne tumhe koi mehengi cheez udhaar di hai, jaise family function ke liye ek watch, aur woh tumse kho jaati hai. Tum kya karoge, aur kyun?
Solution dikhao
First I would search properly and retrace my steps. If it did not turn up, I would tell my friend honestly the same day, apologise and offer to make good the loss, with my parents' help or in instalments from my pocket money. Hiding it would only make things worse, as Matilda's story shows. A true friend values honesty, and the real price of an object is often less than we fear.
- Key points: search, then confess quickly
- apologise and offer to repay
- take an adult's help
- lesson from Matilda
Loisel couple ko apna karz chukaane mein kitna samay laga?

Answer (C) das saal

Answer- Phool mana karna : gareeb dikhne ka dar
- Gun ke paise chhod dena : Loisel ki dariyadili
- Clasp wali chitthi : sach chhupana
- Das saal ki mehnat : himmat aur izzat
Har choice character dikhati hai: vanity, generosity, dishonesty, aur aakhir mein courage.
7.4 Is par baat karo
Textbook ke ant mein charcha ke liye teen topics hain. Pehla bhasha ki ek paheli hai; baaki do aise values hain jinhe kahani parakhti hai.
7.4.1 Woh asal mein kaunsi bhasha bol rahe hain?
Tum kahani English mein padhte ho, lekin Loisel couple ne kabhi English nahi boli hogi. The Necklace French se translation hai, aur text aise clues se bhara hai jo iska origin bata dete hain. Unhe ek detective ki tarah dekho, unhe titles, paise aur jagahon mein baanto, jaise Fig. 7.7 karta hai.
- Titles aur naam: Mme aur M. French titles hain, aur Loisel, Forestier aur Ramponneau French surnames hain. French original mein Matilda ka naam Mathilde hai.
- Paise: har keemat francs aur sous mein hai, jo us samay ke French paise the.
- Jagahein: Paris, Palais-Royal aur Champs-Élysées sab French capital mein hain, isliye jis nadi ki taraf woh chalte hain woh Seine hogi.
To characters French hain, woh French bolte hain, aur jo tum padhte ho woh translator ki English hai. Translators aksar Mme jaise titles aur sous jaise sikke waise hi rakhte hain, taaki readers ko phir bhi mehsoos ho ki kahani kahan se aayi hai.
5/5Faisla: French. Hum ek translation padhte hain.
Beech ka ek circle poochhta hai ki characters kaunsi bhasha bolte hain, aur uske aas-paas teen clue cards hain. Step 1, Paheli: sirf beech mein sawaal. Step 2, Titles: Mme, M. aur surnames wala card aata hai, centre ki taraf arrow ke saath. Step 3, Paise: francs aur sous wala card aata hai. Step 4, Jagah: Paris aur Champs-Élysées wala card aata hai. Step 5, Faisla: centre badal kar answer, French, dikhata hai, saath mein note ki hum translation padhte hain.

Short-answer questions (40–50 words wale): answers ke saath
Pati ke pyaar ke bawajood Matilda hamesha dukhi kyun rehti thi?
Solution dikhao
Matilda felt she was born for luxury. She compared her modest home, plain meals and lack of jewels with the lives of rich women, and the gap made her miserable. Her unhappiness came from envy and vanity, not real hardship, so even Loisel's love could not satisfy her.
- Key points: feels born for luxury
- compares herself with the rich
- envy, not hardship
Ball se pehle Loisel ne Matilda ke liye apna pyaar kaise dikhaya?
Solution dikhao
Loisel brought home the invitation, hoping it would please her. When she wept over clothes, he gave her the four hundred francs he had saved for a gun. When she worried about jewels, he suggested flowers and then a loan from her friend. He always put her happiness first.
- Key points: invitation to please her
- gun savings given up
- flowers, then the loan idea
Matilda ne ball mein phool pehenne se kyun mana kiya? Isse uske baare mein kya pata chalta hai?
Solution dikhao
Matilda refused flowers because she thought they would make her look poor beside wealthy women wearing jewels. To her, appearing shabby was the worst humiliation. This shows her vanity and her obsession with what others think, the very weakness that leads her to borrow the necklace and later ruins her.
- Key points: fears looking poor
- vanity, concern for appearances
- leads to the borrowed necklace
Loisel couple ne Mme Forestier ko nuksaan ke baare mein kyun nahi bataya?
Solution dikhao
The Loisels were ashamed and afraid. They feared Mme Forestier would think Matilda careless, or even a thief, and they wanted to protect their good name. So they wrote that the clasp was being mended and secretly bought a replacement. Their pride cost them ten years of hardship.
- Key points: shame and fear of being thought thieves
- pride and reputation
- the cover-up and its cost
Das saal ki mushkilon ne Matilda ko kaise badla?
Solution dikhao
Outwardly, Matilda aged badly: her hands grew red, her hair untidy and her voice loud, and she looked like any poor housewife. Inwardly, she grew strong. The vain, discontented woman learned to work hard, bear poverty bravely and pay every debt honourably. She lost her beauty but gained character.
- Key points: looks old and coarse
- hard-working and brave
- honourable; vanity gone
Ant mein Mme Forestier ne kya raaz kholaa, aur yeh itna bada jhatka kyun hai?
Solution dikhao
Mme Forestier revealed that her necklace had been fake, worth at most five hundred francs. It is a shock because the Loisels had paid 36,000 francs for a real replacement and spent ten years in poverty repaying it. Their whole sacrifice had been unnecessary, a bitter situational irony.
- Key points: necklace was fake, ≤ 500 francs
- 36,000 francs and ten years
- sacrifice for nothing: irony
Practice questions answers ke saath (NCERT “Long-answer questions (100–120 words wale)”)
Matilda Loisel ka character sketch likho.
Solution dikhao
Matilda Loisel is a pretty young woman who believes she was born for luxury. At first she is discontented and envious: a loving husband and a decent home cannot make her happy, because she compares herself with the rich. She is vain, weeping for a dress and refusing simple flowers so that she will not look poor. Her pride makes her hide the loss of the necklace instead of confessing. Yet the loss reveals another side. For ten years she works without complaint, scrubbing, carrying water and bargaining over coins, until every debt is paid. She loses her beauty but gains courage and honour. Matilda is a warning against vanity and a picture of strength in hardship.
- Key points: discontented and envious
- vain and proud
- hides the truth
- hard-working and brave later
- changes from vanity to strength
“M. Loisel is a devoted husband.” Kya tum sehmat ho? Apne answer ko kahani ke saboot se support karo.
Solution dikhao
Yes, M. Loisel is a devoted husband. He is happy with simple things, yet he brings home an invitation to the Minister's ball because he wants his wife to enjoy herself. When she cries over clothes, he gives up the four hundred francs he had saved for a gun. He suggests flowers, and then the idea of borrowing jewels. After the loss he searches all night, contacts the police and cab offices, and finally spends his inheritance and borrows the rest to replace the necklace. For ten years he works evenings and nights without blaming Matilda. His only fault is agreeing to hide the truth, but even that comes from wanting to protect her.
- Key points: invitation and gun money
- practical ideas
- all-night search
- inheritance, debt and ten years of extra work
- never blames her; one weakness: the cover-up
“A small lie can cost far more than the truth.” The Necklace ke reference ke saath charcha karo.
Solution dikhao
The Necklace shows how a small lie can grow into a lifetime's burden. When the necklace was lost, the Loisels wrote that its clasp was being mended. This lie bought them a week, but it closed the door to the truth. Instead of confessing, they bought a replacement for 36,000 francs, half of it borrowed at crushing interest. Matilda and Loisel then spent ten years in poverty and toil, and Matilda lost her youth and beauty. Had she told Mme Forestier at once, she would have learned that the necklace was fake, worth at most five hundred francs. The truth would have cost a little embarrassment; the lie cost ten years. Honesty is not only right but often cheaper.
- Key points: the clasp lie
- 36,000 francs, half borrowed
- ten years of hardship
- truth would have cost ≤ 500 francs
- lesson: honesty
Matilda ki barbaadi dikhawe ke liye jeene se aayi. Uski seekh aaj ke young logon ke liye kaise relevant hai?
Solution dikhao
Matilda wanted to look rich for one evening, and that wish cost her ten years. Her lesson matters today, when appearances are everywhere. Many young people compare their lives with the polished photos they see on social media and feel, as Matilda did, that their own lives are dull. Some families take loans for lavish weddings to impress relatives, just as Matilda borrowed jewels to keep up a show. Some students buy costly phones or clothes only because classmates have them. The story reminds us that borrowed glamour is short-lived, while debt and dissatisfaction last. Being content, living within our means and being honest about what we have bring a steadier happiness.
- Key points: living for show costs dearly
- social-media comparison
- loans for display, e.g. lavish weddings
- contentment and honesty
